Continuing the Tradition of Norman Langlois
John Langlois had Entrepreneurship in his blood from a very early age. While in grammar school in Newmarket he ran his own TV Guide delivery service using his bicycle for many years. Once in High School he ventured into sales. He tapped into relatives, neighbors, and went door to door selling Pots and Pans to make money for College. Customer Service, Sales, and Business was always his forte.
John graduated with a BS Degree from Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT. He taught High School Math for a few years and then moved back to NH to work for his Dad running Seacoast Beauty Supply. At one time they serviced over 5,000 Beauty Salons and Day Spas throughout New England.
In 1988 John opened his 1st Beauty Salon in Rochester, NH. In the next 20 Years John opened 21 salons called Hair Excitement. Hair Excitement was considered 1 of the top 5 most successful salon chains in the U. S. After so much hard work over so many years John thought of retiring. In 2008 John sold his 21 Salons to Regis Corporation.
After a few years of retirement and spending even more time focusing on his love of coaching basketball, he felt his Dad needed his help. John started helping with the running of Empire Beauty Schools. Empire Beauty Schools of NH now has 10 Schools in 3 Campuses of Hooksett, Laconia and Somersworth. John had devoted almost all his working life to the Beauty Industry. He has been very successful in business. But in life there are many ways to succeed and to Quote John "There's no better feeling in the World than helping Young and Older People to become a Professional who has Confidence, Talent and Self Worth."
Today John remains very active with Empire Beauty Schools and continues to maintain the great Legacy of Outstanding Education his Dad began many years ago at Empire.
Donna (Langlois) Demers started her career at the young age of 7! At the time her Dad had his first “Beauty Shop” in Durham, NH and she was hired @.25 Hr. to go in on Saturdays and clean brushes, combs, perm rods etc. to help the “hairdressers” and so it began. She loved the excitement of the salon and the ladies that all came in.
During High School Donna worked at the Shoe Shop in Newmarket and after graduating worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance. It wasn’t long however that the Beauty Industry was once again calling, and she went to work alongside her Father and Brother at Seacoast Beauty Supply. Donna was the first Female Beauty Supply sales”man” in New England visiting salons weekly to help them with their salon supply needs. Her route covered salons from Belfast, Maine to Peabody, Mass. Donna took over the purchasing for Seacoast Beauty Supply. The supply company was growing. Donna started up their Beauty Saver Stores with the first one in Portsmouth, then added Portland, Maine and Manchester, NH. Donna also created and produced the first multi manufacturer Hair Show in New England, The Beauty Expo. Companies such as Clairol, L’Oreal, Revlon, Faberge, Wella, Tresemme, and many others were part of the Expo.
Fast forward to Hair Excitement. Norman was starting to focus more on his schools. John Langlois started Hair Excitement and soon Donna joined him first as a Salon Manager, then District Manager.
In the late 1990’s Donna was feeling the urge to leave the slippery driving and cold winters behind and move to Florida. After settling in Central Florida, she decided to try something new, Banking. With no experience she started at an entry level position as a Financial Service Representative. She quickly moved up to Account Executive, then to Branch Manager, on to County Area Manager and moving on to a Senior Vice President. Her branches and Area were ranked in the top 5 out of over 1,600 in the Entire Bank for over 5 years in a row. She made her Dad very proud!
As Norman got into his 80’s as one might expect he started to have more health challenges. It was at this time that both John and Donna decided they would help him with his business which at the time was mostly centered around Empire Beauty Schools. Donna commuted back and forth between her home in Florida and New Hampshire every month. This was not a sacrifice, but a way to give back to the person that had given her so much knowledge, love, support and opportunities.
To this day John and Donna continue to oversee Empire Beauty Schools with the help of Matt Lambert, Brenda Brown, and the great staff at all the schools.
